Upper Limb Retraining

Onward Health provides upper limb rehabilitation services across the Sunshine Coast, supporting adults to regain strength, coordination and functional use of the arm and hand following neurological or orthopaedic injury.

Upper limb impairment can significantly impact independence in daily tasks such as dressing, cooking, writing, driving and household activities. Our therapy is structured, practical and delivered in the client’s home environment to ensure meaningful functional carryover.

What We Do

Therapy may include:

  • Task-specific motor retraining

  • Graded strengthening programs

  • Fine motor retraining

  • Sensory re-education strategies

  • Functional task practice within the home

  • Structured home programs to support progress between sessions

Intervention is goal-driven and measurable, with regular review of functional outcomes.

Assessment & Treatment Approach

Assessment includes evaluation of range of motion, strength, coordination, sensation, tone and functional task performance. We identify barriers to independence and develop a targeted intervention plan.

Our focus is on improving participation in meaningful daily activities. Goals may include:

  • Increased independence with dressing and grooming

  • Improved meal preparation skills

  • Greater confidence using the affected arm

  • Enhanced fine motor control for work or hobbies

  • Reduced reliance on compensatory strategies

Progress is monitored to ensure therapy remains practical and effective.
